360 talks with twenty-three highly influential
zines and design portals on the Internet.
In purpose of revealing what goes beyond
the scenes of a site, and especially why
they do what they do for free.

Introduction
This article began with my
own personal reflection of the online world,
and my non-stop dedication to Scene 360.
It's a fascinating opportunity and experience
to learn from artists and filmmakers at
360, in addition to expressing my liking
through team web design work, artwork, and
articles. But of course, like in every production
piece, there are behind the scenes details
that the viewers don't know of, such as
"how many hours are spent to set up an elaborate
piece; why we keep striving to produce something
innovating for us, and also for our beloved
audience," plus many other questions that
designers among designers speak of, but
rarely reveal online. As a site creator,
I think it is important to keep focus on
"why one began the project; why one does
what she/he does each day." For me, the
answer is pretty simple, "I do it for the
love of art, the love of design."
We have spoken with twenty-three zines and
design portals from around the globe. Each
site creator was asked the same four questions.
The main concept is throughout the year,
it has been clear that many design related
sites are launched online in large mass,
although, not many actually stay for the
long run. Some designers of these sites'
may lose hope of their dreams and visions,
or maybe their site has become extremely
popular to a point of being called a "fame
whore," or too repetitive in style
as a result, it's not innovating anymore.
Or maybe the fun just stops, and all ends.
But there are many sites that manage to
maintain great quality and keep striving
to innovate that is what we are focusing
on this questionnaire "the envelope pushers."
At Scene 360, we are aware of the dedication
and passion of most designers, even though
at times there have been negative comments
online towards certain zines (e.g. forums),
which tend to misjudge the whole purpose
of the site. One thing that is certain is
there is a lot of positive feedback from
viewers and media, than actual negative
ones. Our Scene 360 goal is revealing behind
the scenes information, a 360-degree turn
that is not fully known to the viewers.
We would like to thank all the participating
sites for allowing us an online publication
premiere, in attempt to uniting part of
the online design community for an insightful
and unveiling questionnaire. Let's
begin!
