Lynda Weinman was born in 1955 in Hollywood,
California. She graduated from Evergreen
State College with a BA in Humanities in
1976. However, she ended up pursuing a career
into retail, and at the age of 25, she was
already owner of two stores. A few years
later, Lynda makes a dramatic career change,
by stepping into a new field of animation
and special effects. And only in 1982, does
she use her first computer, and two years
later, buys her own Macintosh. “I
am self-taught, but love computers and I
love design. Most people are shocked to
hear that I’m self-taught, and some
critics even ding me for it,” [1]
states Lynda.
Lynda Weinman is best known as the founder
of lynda.com. A site dedicated to helping
media designers and communicators understand
how to use professional tools and design
to enhance visual communication through
web, print, and motion graphics. And she
is also co-founder of one of the hottest
international Flash-film-festivals, called
Flashforward. An event held as an online
competition and live awards ceremony showcasing
and celebrating the best work on the Web
in 13 categories.
She has worked professionally in design
and animation for the past 22 years, and
has been teaching digital design for the
past 12 years. She has taught at Art Center
College of Design, San Francisco Multimedia
Studies, American Film Institute, UCLA,
and at numerous conferences and workshops
throughout the world, before forming her
own workshops in Ojai, California. In addition,
Lynda is the best-selling author of a series
of books on web design, and writes for numerous
magazines including MacWorld, How,
Adobe, Step-by-Step Graphics, Web
Techniques, Dynamic Graphics,
Animation, Full Motion,
New Media and Diem. Above
all, Lynda loves to teach. She has conducted
private classes for many corporations, including
