“In art, you can never make mistakes, just unexpected improvements.” —Poprocki

Mat Poprocki was born in 1981 in Oberlin, Ohio, USA. He is a self-taught painter and web designer. His commercial career began in 1995, having web designed for companies such as Tum Yeto, Team Psycho (a non-profit skateboarding organization), and E & Y. He currently co-owns a design firm with his brother Stephen Poprocki, called Inferiordesign.

One might think, “Oh, another web designer.” But Poprocki is not your usual artist when it comes to painting. He lives and breathes art to its purest form. He takes Pop art to its highest level with his eccentric lifestyle of wig wearing, silk screening, skate boarding, painting, and partying — which some activities show similarities to the famous Andy Warhol. And within the craze, he is a passionate and dedicated to his work. Poprocki finds inspiration in books, cigarettes, and showers. As bizarre as this may sound, Poprocki explains his love for these things:“Every time I read a book... I may not even be 15 minutes into it; I get so overwhelmed that I have to stop and make something creative. It’s as if I discovered something totally new. And another good source of inspiration is ‘nicotine!’ Every hour on the hour, I stop whatever I’m doing, I take a break, and have a chance to actually think about what the hell I’m trying to do. During that time, I let the cigarette work its ‘magic,’... and relax. When I’m done, I have a new outlook on my project. The same happens in the shower, except, I don't recommend taking one every hour!”

As for viewing more of his fine art and experimental creations, Poprocki launched an online gallery entitled NakedHoliday.com, which contains art show photos and his paintings for sale. He additionally has a commercial portfolio at Greymetaldesk.net; and on his free time he runs a site called managraphic.com, which is dedicated to featuring artists from around the world.
